Things
to Do
On Site
Rathsallagh has a lot to offer besides its unique setting, luxurious
accommodation and fine cuisine.
Golf
Designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr and Peter McEvoy the golf course
at Rathsallagh has rapidly taken its place as one of the top
golf courses in Ireland. After only two years in operation it
was officially listed in the top 30 (out of over 350) of Ireland's
Greatest Golf Courses of 1997.
Home to important domestic tournaments, many regard Rathsallagh
as the best parkland course in Ireland. The Irish Ladies Open
Stroke
Measuring 7200 yards from the Medal Tees Rathsallagh is one of
the best laid out courses you could play, several lakes and small
streams meander their way accross the fairways creating a USPGA
feel about the design and the greens are immaculate to putt on.
Or as one of our visitors commented recently - " like putting
on velvet". The undulating countryside creates the perfect
golf terrain which proves a great test for golfers but is fair
to all.
Guests at Rathsallagh can enjoy
a round of golf on our superb championship golf course or improve
their game at the Brendan McDaid Golf Academy.
They can avail of the Sauna.
They can also enjoy tennis in the walled garden, croquet on the
front lawn or a game of snooker in our snooker room.
For the more adventurous there
is clay pigeon shooting, and archery. We can also arrange fishing
on our local rivers, horse riding, and walking on the Wicklow
mountains less than 20 minutes away. We can also arrange other
services for guests including massages and aromatherapy.

In the Wicklow Region (Just a few of the opportunities available)
Glendalough (The Glen of the Two Lakes), a
half hour drive away, is a valley celebrated equally for its
beauty and for its historical and archaeological interest. The
area also provides excellent rock-climbing, rough scrambling

of the valley, provides a unique opportunity to interpret the
lives and time of the monks of Glendalough.
RUSSBOROUGH HOUSE
Situated beside the Blessington Lakes, a short distance from
Dunlavin, this beautifully furnished and maintained house built
of granite is in the Palladian style. It has fine examples of
plasterwork by the Francini Brothers and now houses the world
famous Beit Art Collection of paintings. The house also contains
magnificent displays of silver, bronzes, porcelain, fine furniture,
tapestries and carpets.
BALTINGLASS ABBEY
In 1148 Dermot Mac Murrough brought Cistercian monks here from
Mellifont to found a new monastery in Baltinglass. It has been
caught up in many religious disputes over the centuries and is
steeped in history. The visitor centre has relics from the monastery
as well as historical information.
THE WICKLOW MOUNTAINS
These mountains have some of the most breathtaking and rugged
scenery in Ireland. Lugnaquilla mountain (3,039 feet), the second
highest in Ireland is part of it, as is the Hollywood Glen which
stretches for about 1.5 miles (2km) between Church Mountain (1,789
feet) and lesser hills to the west. The glen is traditionally
associated with St. Kevin, who is said to have had his first
hermitage here. There are fine panoramic views from the summit
of Church Mountain.
