It is here that most of the restaurants herbs and vegetables are grown, as well as some fruit including apples, berries and grapes.

Besides the hotel facilities also in the locality there is:

Ballymaloe Cookery School cookery demonstrations take place almost every weekday at the School from 2.00pm to 4.30pm. People who cannot spare the time to take an entire course often enjoy attending a demonstration session while a course is in progress. This can easily be arranged during both the l2-week Certificate course and the many other courses, space permitting. The fee includes recipes and a taste of all the dishes prepared during the class.

Sea or river fishing and horse riding can be arranged.

Golf: Cork Golf Club, Fota Island, Harbour Point and Youghal.
Gardens: Ballymaloe Cookery School, Annsgrove Gardens, Lismore Castle Gardens, Fota Arboretum and others.
Beaches: There are many coves and beaches within a 15 minute drive varying from small and rocky to large and sandy stretches.
Cork City: We are 20 miles from Cork city which has a population of about 200,000
In the country side: Long walks can be taken at the Ballycotton cliffs, in local woodlands, along the beaches closeby and on the quieter country roads.
There are also many beautiful drives through the surrounding area. These can take anything from half an hour to a full day.

MUSIC: Rory Allen has a great interest in traditional and classical music and plays and sings with friends in the drawing room in the weekends. He can also advise on visits to local pubs that have a music session on.

If you have a keen interest in music Rory also runs a Weekend of Music at Ballymaloe in March and November. Where distinguishes traditional and classical musicians get together to play and sing and give lectures.

Otherwise, we have a small library of books, comfortable couches and a warm fire!
